Oct 16, 2023 (newstodate): Finnair is slowly, but steadily, recovering in cargo volumes through 2023.
During the first nine months of this year, the company is seeing its total cargo volumes up by 6.6 percent, y-o-y, to 98,083 tonnes - up from 4.7 percent y-o-y in January-August '23.
The sustained growth is due both to the reopening of flights on intercontinental, notably Asian routes, but not least the cooperation with Qatar Airways, where cargo capacity is fully allocated to and sold by Qatar Airways, but reported by Finnair under Middle East cargo figures that accrued to 16,472 tonnes in Jan-Sep '23 - rising 1,367 percent, y-o-y (!).
Loads on the airline's crucial Asian lanes also increased by 29 percent in Jan-Sep, reaching 52,826 tonnes.
On the other side, Finnair Cargo's volumes on the North Atlantic routes remain marked by the cut of Finnair's Stockholm-NAM traffic since November 2022, and down by 55.1 percent, y-o-y, to 11,444 tonnes in the first nine months of this year.
For comparison, the carrier lifted a total of 127,829 tonnes, up 12.5 percent, y-o-y, with the Asian loads rising 10.4 percent to 92,248 tonnes in the first nine months of pre-Covid 2019.
