Oct 19, 2023 (newstodate): Lufthansa is reviving its remaining fleet of Airbus A380 aircraft after a long hiatus.
At its peak, Lufthansa operated a fleet of 14 Airbus A380, but as the pandemic hit the world the carrier parked all aircraft for storage at airports in Spain and France.
Since then, six of the aircraft have been sold back to Airbus, leaving Lufthansa with eight units, all of which are now returning to service.
Three A380 have already been reinstated in service from this summer; a fourth A380 will return to service this autumn, and the remaining four A380 aircraft will reenter service with Lufthansa in 2024.
Driving Lufthansa's decision to reintroduce the eight Airbus A380 that are to be based in Munich is a sustained growth in market demand, as well as delays in deliveries of new aircraft.
Airbus ceased production of the Airbus A380 in December 2021 after delivering a total of 251 aircraft, with Emirates as the largest customer with 120 A380 in its fleet.
