Key provider to Russia's seafood air logistics is the Volga-Dnepr Group, developing air transport solutions in cooperation with the country's largest seafood exporter, Antey Group.
Starting in October 2023, Volga-Dnepr Airlines has lifted over 30 tonnes of live crabs from Moscow to Shenzhen on Il-76TD-90VD aircraft with the capacity of lifting 26 tonnes of live crabs per flight, including packaging and equipment.
According to Chinese customs data, from January to June 2023, China imported 13,149 tonnes of Russian king crabs, up 64 percent from 8,027 tons in H1/2022.
Norway is also an important exporter of live crabs to the world's marketplace.
In 2023, Norway's Ministry of Trade and Fisheries has set this year's total quota of snow crabs at 7,790 tonnes, up from 1,065 tonnes in 2022. The quota for king crabs has been set at 2,375 tonnes, up by 28 percent, compared to 2022.
The single largest Norwegian exporter is Cape Fish using South Korea as a gateway for king crabs exports to Asia, storing shipments for a few days in own water tanks, re-packing and then forwarding shipments from Seoul to customers in Singapore, Taiwan, Japan, China and other Asian markets.
