Nov 06, 2023 (newstodate): Following on the news of Qatar Airways Cargo freighter operations reopening from October 31, 2023, at Norway's Evenes Airport with one weekly flight, more developments are brewing.
The UK cargo carrier European Cargo has thus been sniffing at Evenes for uplift of Norwegian seafood into London Heathrow Airport for transfer to other carriers to export destinations in Asia and the NAM market.
So far, the carrier has performed two test operations with Airbus A340-600 converted freighters on the route, and evaluations are now made to decide on the potential opening of a scheduled weekly service.
A similar, albeit short-lived, service in cooperation with Kuehne & Nagel Norway was introduced by Virgin Atlantic from February 3, 2021, with two weekly flights to London Heathrow - but Virgin pulled out already from summer 2021.
With Stig Winther as its CEO, Perishable Center Nord, established in 2020 with main shareholders including Nordlaks Opdrett, Ellingsen Seafood, Salfra and Astafjord Export, have repeatedly pushed hard to establish scheduled freighter services out of Evenes, close to the key production sites in Northern Norway.
