Feb 10, 2023 (newstodate): Starting from October 1, 2023, Etihad will be offering four weekly rotations on the route between Copenhagen and Abu Dhabi, served with Boeing 787-9 aircraft under a code-share agreement with SAS.
In a release on the expansion of Etihad's network, special focus is on the export cargo capacity offered in the Danish market.
-Etihad Cargo is pleased to introduce cargo capacity out of Copenhagen. Denmark is home to a number of major international pharmaceutical companies, and the country has become an established biotech and pharma hub in Europe.
-Via Etihad Cargo’s IATA CEIV Pharma-certified product, PharmaLife, the carrier will provide the reliable and robust transportation of Denmark’s packaged medicaments to markets around the world, says Martin Drew, Etihad Airways Snr VP – Global Sales & Cargo.
Hopefully, Etihad Airlines route opening at Copenhagen Airport will be more successful than its earlier attempt; with the first operation on October 20, 2016, Etihad Airlines Cargo launched two weekly flights from Copenhagen Airport to Abu Dhabi with Boeing 777F aircraft flying in from Amsterdam and heading for Abu Dhabi after the call at Copenhagen Airport.
The flights, driven by Danish pharma and dairy exports, were, however, suspended already in May 2017.
Denmark ranks #11 and Sweden #13 among the largest pharma exporting countries. The Medicon Valley cluster, within two hours' drive from Copenhagen Airport, has an export share of almost six percent of global pharma.
At Copenhagen Airport, WFS operates a 1,500 m2 facility dedicated to handling of pharma shipments, opened on September 3, 2019, and by the end of January 2018, Spirit Air Cargo Handling completed IATA's CEIV Pharma Certification process at Copenhagen Airport as the first of the three Spirit Air Cargo hub facilities in Scandinavia.
