May 15, 2023 (newstodate): The state-owned company Lithuanian Airports is preparing for opening a new chapter as a joint-stock company later this year - probably by July 2023, already.
Since July 1, 2014, the three state-owned international airports - Vilnius, Kaunas and Palanga - in Lithuania have been jointly managed by Lithuanian Airports Plc. but the aim has long been to migrate from a state-owned entity to a joint-stock company, allowing for fully commercial operations without direct state control through the country's Ministry of Transportation.
Actually, plans were for the Plc company to become a Ltd company by mid-2022, already - which was however delayed for various reasons, including the general slowdown during the corona pandemic.
As part of the forthcoming migration from state to market, the Lithuanian Ministry of Transport and Communications has announced a tender for the position of CEO of this company.
-The state-owned enterprise Lithuanian airports will become a joint-stock company later this year, so we hope that the new head of the company will ensure a smooth transition to a new legal status and will be able to use its advantages, further strengthening the country's airports and increasing Lithuania's accessibility by air, says Marius Skuodis, Minister of Transport and Communications.
Applicants for the new CEO position will have until May 26, 2023, to raise their hands...
Serving as Lithuanian Airport CEO since March 2018, Marius Gelzinis stepped down in June 2022, leaving Aurimas Stikliunas, Head of Aviation Services, to serve as Acting CEO during the interim period.
