Aug 08, 2023 (newstodate): Russia's war on Ukraine and the ensuing disruption of parts of the aviation industry brought the US/Irish aircraft leasing company Voyager Aviation Holdings to the brink of liquidation.
The final collapse of the company has only been avoided through its sale to the US lessor Azorra Explorer Holdings Limited, now pending successful completion of its Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
Voyager's aircraft portfolio comprises wide-body Airbus A330-300, Boeing 777-300ER and Boeing 747-8F aircraft, and the company's financial condition worsened during the pandemic, when long-haul cargo transportation was greatly reduced.
However, the Russian war on Ukraine dealt the final lethal blow to Voyager Aviation: two of its Boeing 474-8F aircraft were leased to the Volga-Dnepr Group's AirBridgeCargo and have remained stuck in Russia.
Voyager launched a lawsuit against the lessee, with little result, and considers the two aircraft a total loss due to lack of maintenance, even if they were eventually returned from Russian custody.
This pulled the plug under Voyager's financial situation, forcing it to file for bankruptcy and protection.
