Sep 29, 2023 (newstodate): Originally set up for start by October 1, 2023, Etihad is today inaugurating its new route connecting Abu Dhabi and Copenhagen.
The carrier is now offering four weekly rotations on the route, operated with Boeing 787-9 aircraft.
Hopefully, Etihad Airlines route opening at Copenhagen Airport will prove more successful than its earlier attempt; with the first operation on October 20, 2016, Etihad Airlines Cargo launched two weekly flights from Copenhagen Airport to Abu Dhabi with Boeing 777F aircraft flying in from Amsterdam and heading for Abu Dhabi after the call at Copenhagen Airport.
The flights, driven by Danish pharma and dairy exports, were, however, suspended already in May 2017.
Pharma and dairy exports from Denmark are, however, still a key point of attention for the airline in opening the new route.
-Etihad Cargo is pleased to introduce cargo capacity out of Copenhagen. Denmark is home to a number of major international pharmaceutical companies, and the country has become an established biotech and pharma hub in Europe.
-Via Etihad Cargo’s IATA CEIV Pharma-certified product, PharmaLife, the carrier will provide transportation of Denmark’s packaged medico shipments to markets around the world, said Martin Drew, Etihad Airways Snr VP – Global Sales & Cargo.
Serving Etihad Cargo with cargo sales in Denmark is Universal GSA; WFS provides the carrier with cargo handling, and in August 2023 Etihad Cargo appointed Wallenborn Transports as its road feeder service partner for Europe to expand its scheduled and specialized services across 27 countries.
