Jan 15, 2024 (newstodate): Helsinki Airport ended 2023 with cargo volumes slightly up on the preceding year.
   A total of 172,579 tonnes of cargo and mail was handled in January-December 2023, up 0.8 percent, y-o-y.
   International cargo accounted for 168,628 tonnes, which was an increase by 0.9 percent and driving the growth in cargo.
   Cargo volumes have actually been rising month by month after the first two months of the year when volumes were heavily down by 26 and 24 percent, respectively.
   In addition to a rebound in Finnair's Asian traffic as well as the carrier's increasing NAM flights, growth was also provided by the Chinese carrier Juneyao Airlines' increase in frequency from two to four weekly rotations from May 22, 2023, on the route connecting Shanghai and Helsinki in addition to their weekly rotation on the route connecting Zhengzhou and Helsinki.
   Starting from November 1, 2023, Lufthansa Cargo introduced a new twice-weekly Airbus A321F freighter service at Helsinki Airport, further boosting the  airport's cargo volumes.
   Despite the positive development through the year, Helsinki Airport's cargo volumes in 2023 were still 25 percent below pre-Covid levels in 2019 when 229,532 tonnes were handled.
