Oct 25, 2024 (newstodate): Hungary's Budapest Airport is growing its position as a key European hub for ex-Chinese e-commmerce imports.
-For decades, Budapest Airport has served as a hub for integrators DHL, FedEx, and UPS. But now we are becoming an e-commerce gateway for big platforms like alibaba, shein, temu, tiktok etc, says Jozsef Kossuth, Budapest Airport Cargo Director.
Mr Kossuth does not, however, see any issues with customs clearance and control of the floods of incoming Chinese e-com shipments:
-In the last 12 months, Budapest Airport handled more than 200 mio e-commerce shipments with an average import customs clearance time around 18-20 minutes.
-At the airport, customs are full digitized, 99 percent of all customs clearance of airfreight is done electronically, via e-customs clearance, and the system for e-commerce is interfaceable.
-In short, we are booming like hell, says Mr Kossuth.
Earlier this year, Budapest Airport contracted KALE to implement its Air Cargo Community system, designed to provide a single platform for all members of the cargo ecosystem to communicate, document and manage their cargo-related tasks.
With the system, stakeholders can continue to use their own systems, and the complementary community IT solution connects to these via interfaces.
