Oct 25, 2024 (newstodate): Russia's ambitions for replacing its dependence on western-built commercial aircraft with own aircraft remain undaunted by facts.
According to the state program "Development of the Aviation Industry", the fleet of the largest Russian carriers should consist of 50 percent domestically produced aircraft and 90 percent domestically produced helicopters by 2030 already.
-The implementation of this federal project will allow us to achieve technological sovereignty in the aviation industry in a short time and form new markets for the products of the reviving industry, the Federation Council Committee on Budget and Financial Markets declares.
In reality, Russia is now discussing with "friendly states" for luring their airlines to perform domestic flights in Russia as the lack of aircraft increases due to the implementation of western sanctions on import of spares to maintain the Airbus and Boeing fleets.
At the same time, the industry reports that only 20 new Russian-built commercial aircraft will be delivered in 2025, against 90 as earlier planned.
