Oct 01, 2024 (newstodate): Sweden's Stockholm Skavsta Airport has been fighting hard to keep air traffic on the runway - with Wizz Air as a staunch supporter over the years.
Now Wizz Air is again breaking positive news at Skavsta Airport by announcing the increased frequency on the route connecting Skavsta and Warsaw Airport.
The low-cost carrier has thus added two more rotations, going up to daily services from October 1, 2024, on the route served since March 29, 2005.
Skavsta Airport suffered a heavy loss as Ryanair, operating at Skavsta Airport since 1997, moved its operations away from Stockholm Skavsta to set up instead its base at Stockholm Airport from the start of the winter 2021/22 schedule, leaving Wizz Air as its only scheduled airline.
Now under new leadership by Brett Weihart as CEO from August 01, 2024, Skavsta Airport is again on the offensive to rebuild its position in the country's airports infrastructure.
In 2022, the French company VINCI Airports, owning the airport since April 2018, sold 90.1 percent of the stake to the Swedish real estate group Arlandastad Group AB that plans to develop 484 hectares of airport land in partnership with the municipality of Nykoping to pave the way for the development of a logistics zone and a large-scale business park.
