Nov 29, 2024 (newstodate): Denmark will see the launch of Scandinavia's first scheduled passenger service to South Korea in summer 2025.
SAS has announced the opening of year-round flights between Copenhagen Airport and Seoul Incheon Int'l Airport from September 12, 2025, with four weekly rotations during summer and three weekly rotations during the winter schedule 2025/26 using airbus A350 aircraft.
Seoul Incheon Int'l Airport is a key Asian hub for SkyTeam, granting SAS passengers with prime options for onward connections on SkyTeam partner Korean Air's extensive network.
Besides serving the passenger market, the coming new SAS flights to South Korea will also be a major boon to the air cargo industry, including exports of Norwegian seafood shipments to South Asia, while Denmark's main export products to the South Korean market are pharmaceuticals, pumps and pork meat - all ideally transported by air.
In October 2024, South Korean media reported plans by Korean Air to expand its European network in 2025 with new routes from Seoul to three destinations: Athens, Dublin - and Copenhagen.
If realized, this would mark Korean Air's entry into the Danish market with passenger traffic, while Korean Air Cargo operated up to five weekly freighter flights at Copenhagen Airport already more than 20 years ago, till the freighter traffic was later moved to Oslo Airport instead.
It now remains to be seen if Korean Air will actually add own passenger flights alongside SAS to Copenhagen Airport to reach a daily joint service - or instead code-share with SAS.
