Nov 27, 2024 (newstodate): Sweden's TAM, Taby Air Maintenance, has now received approval of its Saab 340 Cargo Conversion STC from Transport Canada.
The cargo conversion kit has long been approved by both EASA and FAA, and adding the Canadian approval, operators in Canada can now operate converted Saab 340 freighters as well.
So far, TAM has completed cargo conversions of close to 40 Saab 340A and 340B aircraft with a full Class E Cargo compartment without any need for smoke curtains, using lightweight and strong materials to keep the aircraft basic mass low while optimizing the cargo capacity.
The SAAB 340 took to the air for the first time on January 25, 1983, and when production closed in 1999 a total of 459 aircraft had been produced.
Despite its growing age, the SAAB 340 aircraft remains an asset for many operators around the world, playing a major role as a cargo aircraft after conversion from passenger aircraft.
Taby Aircraft Maintenance was the first company worldwide to be approved by the US Federal Aviation Administration, FAA, as well as the European Aviation Safety Authority, EASA, to perform a full cargo conversion of Saab 340A and Saab 340B aircraft.
