Mar 15, 2024 (newstodate): Lapland, Finland’s northernmost region bordering Sweden, Norway, Russia and the Baltic Sea is increasingly attracting European charter traffic.
In this winter schedule, soon coming to an end, four Finnish airports in the Lapland region have seen the number of airline operators increasing to record-high levels.
12 airlines have thus been operating twice-weekly flights to Rovaniemi Airport serving the main regional center of Lapland, the second-busiest airport in Finland.
Kittila Airport has been hosting flights by another 12 airlines, Ivalo Airport five airlines, and Kuusamo four airlines.
Now Eurowings has announced flights to yet another Lapland airport: Kajaani Airport starting from January 2025 to become the first to bring in charter traffic to the airport today served only by Finnair with flights connecting to Helsinki.
