Apr 11, 2024 (newstodate): Russia's aircraft industry has been tasked to speed up production of domestic commercial aircraft to reduce its current dependence on western-built aircraft now hit by sanctions.
In 2022, Russia’s ministry for industry and trade thus issued a revised plan calling for the production of 1,000 aircraft by domestic manufacturers through 2030.
The ministerial policy envisages the production of 564 large aircraft including 12 Ilyushin Il-96-300, 270 MC21-310, 70 Tupolev Tu-214, 142 Sukhoi Superjet 100, and 70 Il-114-300 regional aircraft.
Responding to this call, Voronezh aircraft plant now proudly confirms that is determined to meet the annual production rate of two Il-96-300 aircraft.
So far, one aircraft is on the final assembly line to align wings and fuselage, and a second unit is expected also to hit the line before the end of this year.
The plant says that the 12 aircraft will probably not be delivered to commercial airlines but will be taken up by government institutions instead.
