Apr 22, 2024 (newstodate): A new regional civil aviation association is taking shape in Central Asia and the Caucasus region.
On the initiative first aired in 2023 by Kazakhstan, the coming new association to be named the EurAsian Civil Aviation Conference, EACAC, is slated for official launch in 2025 with member states including the five Central Asian republics Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, with Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova and Mongolia planning to join EACAC.
Considering the geographical and socio-economic interests of its member states, EACAC will strengthen regional cooperation and provide mutual support; develop and implement common policies and procedures to improve aviation safety, security, facilitation, environmental issues and unmanned aviation; coordinate and implement international civil aviation standards and recommended practices on a regional scale, the document reads.
ECAC will have functions similar to those of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization ACAO, the African Civil Aviation Conference AFCAC, the European ECAC, and the Latin American LACAC.
