Apr 24, 2024 (newstodate): India has seen the opening of the country's first RA3-accredited airfreight station at Delhi Airport.
The ground-breaking event was attended by hi-level participants including notably Pasi Nopanen, Finnair Cargo Sales Director Asia since March 9, 2020.
The accreditation has been obtained by Continental Carriers PVT LTD, a leading cargo handling company at the airport and a long-time provider of services to Finnair Cargo as its launch customer since the start of flights by Finnair from Helsinki to Delhi, India, on November 1, 2006.
Since the Yemen incidents on October 29, 2010, where an attempt was made to sabotage two cargo aircraft using explosive devices, the EU Commission decided that all EU bound cargo must meet certain security criteria in order to be accepted in the EU.
All cargo delivered by a forwarding agent to the ground handling agent is thus considered unsecure cargo unless the agent has obtained accreditation as RA3, regulated agent third county.
As the first Indian handling company successfully completing the scrutiny by an approved EU Aviation Security Validator, Continental Carriers PVT LTD can now ship air cargo into EU, and in the case of Finnair Cargo into Helsinki as secure cargo.
