The opening of new international airports in Greenland with Nuuk Airport to commence Transatlantic flights already from November 28, 2024, will allow for new fresh seafood deliveries by air.
Weekly shipments of fresh snow crabs have already started, and now Greenlandic media reports of another novelty: shipments of fresh lumpfish roe.
Last week, Polar Seafood started sending fresh lumpfish roe from Nuuk on Dash-8 aircraft on the domestic flight to Kangerlussuaq Airport for transfer on Air Greenland's Airbus A330-800neo bound for Copenhagen.
After landing at the airport, the shipments are distributed to Polar Seafood's customers in the Danish market by its logistics partner Blue Water Shipping.
In the first week of this new operations, Polar Seafood sent 1,200 kg roe to Denmark.
