Apr 30, 2024 (newstodate): Uzbekistan’s Tashkent International Airport is planning for a significant increase of its cargo handling facilities.
The airport's current cargo handlng capacity is around 30,000 tonnes, while expectations for this year's total cargo volumes run as high as over 65,000 tonnes, calling for a major expansion of facilities.
Plans for construction of a new 120,000 tonnes capacity terminal have been finalized, comprising a two-phased approach.
The first phase will see the opening before the end of this year of a new 8,000 m2 terminal, including 500 m2 dedicated to freezers for perishable and pharma cargo.
In a second phase, to be commissioned in 2025, a new 12,000 m2 cargo warehouse will include cooling and freezing rooms for temperature sensitive cargo shipments.
