Apr 26, 2024 (newstodate): Unsurprisingly, Russia is seeing the volumes of international cargo and mail by air down in 2024.
A total of 30,057 tonnes of international cargo was thus transported in January-March 2024, down 11 percent, y-o-y, while the share of international volumes dropped to 29 percent against 33 percent in Q1/2023.
On the other hand, volumes carried on domestic traffic increased by four percent, y-o-y, to 72,786 tonnes in Q1/2024.
Summing up the overall performance in Q1/2024, the total volume of cargo lifted by Russian airlines thus remained almost unchanged, down only one percent to a total of 102,843 tonnes.
By comparison, in January-March 2017, Russian airlines saw their combined cargo volumes up by 25.7 percent, y-o-y, to 250,035 tonnes; in Q1/2018 volumes were 243,223 tonnes; in Q1/2019 Russian airlines carried a total of 239,729 tonnes of cargo, and in Q1/2021, cargo carried on Russian airlines was 120,222 tonnes.
