Apr 19, 2024 (newstodate): As expected, the new Faroese cargo carrier FarCargo is driving cargo volumes handled at Vagar Airport to new heights.
FarCargo performed its first flight on its key route from Vagar to New York on March 5, 2024, expanding to three weekly rotations from May 27, 2024, and this is clearly reflected in Vagar Airport's statistics for March 2024.
A total of 258 tonnes of cargo was thus handled in March, an increase by 377 percent, y-o-y, and truly a boost over the total of only 40 tonnes in the preceding month.
In 2023, the airport handled only 462 tonnes of cargo, down 42.9 percent, y-o-y.
With Billund Airport as its European hub, the carrier is operating to Vagar Airport, on the Faroe Islands, continuing with Bakkafrost seafood export shipments to Newark Airport in the USA, with a fuel stop in Keflavik on Iceland. Returning from Newark, the carrier flies directly back to Billund Airport, loading Danish exports to the Faroe Islands.
