May 14, 2024 (newstodate): A delegation from Pakistan's Civil Aviation Authority is currently in Brussels to participate in the EU Air Safety Committee on May 14, 2024.
This has raised media speculations about possibly lifting of the EASA ban on PIA flights to Europe, including Scandinavia, enforced from July 1, 2020, due to the airline's lack of compliance with international standards for certifying and overseeing its operators and aircraft.
The ban came less than a week after Pakistan's Aviation Minister alleged in Parliament that a third of the state carrier's pilots possessed fake or “dubious” licenses, and after the fatal accident by flight PK8303 on May 22, 2020, that cost 97 lives.
Prior to the enforcement of the ban, PIA operated once-weekly flights since 1999 from Islamabad to Oslo, continuing to Copenhagen and returning to Lahore, in Pakistan.
