May 10, 2024 (newstodate): Billund Airport lost one cargo carrier as BBN, Bluebird Nordic, pulled out of the market from April 30, 2024.
Member of the Lithuanian Avia Solutions Group, BBN thus handed its AOC back to the Iceland's Civil Aviation Authority.
But already from April 29, 2024, another ASG member carrier, the Slovak charter and ACMI airline AirExplore took over with the first flight on the route from Cologne-Bonn to Billund, continuing to Keflavik in Iceland and returning along the same line.
AirExplore thus took over the contract with UPS earlier operated by BBN and comprising four weekly flights, launched on January 3, 2022.
ASG acquired AirExplore in June 2023, while Bluebird Nordic was a member of ASG since January 2020.
In the fleet of AirExplore are today three Boeing 737-800BCF freighters, as well as nine Boeing 737-800 passenger aircraft.
Heading AirExplore's cargo business from April 2024 is Sveinn Zoega, stepping in from the position with Bluebird Nordic as Commercial Director since October 2017.
