May 16, 2024 (newstodate): In April 2024, the three Baltic capital airports together handled a total of 3,391 tonnes of cargo.
Topping the list in cargo volumes was Latvia's Riga Airport with 1,388 tonnes, albeit down 13 percent, y-o-y.
Second was Lithuania's Vilnius Airport with 1,268 tonnes, but increasing by 12.8 percent.
Finally, Estonia's Tallinn Airport handled 736 tonnes, and growing 13.7 percent, y-o-y.
Riga Airport thus accounted for 40.9 percent of the total volumes at the capital airports, with Vilnius holding 37.4 and Tallinn 21.7 percent.
In January-April 2024, the three airports together handled a total of 13,422 tonnes of cargo.
With 5,380 tonnes, Latvia's Riga Airport was still on the top with 40.1 percent of the total, while down 13 percent, y-o-y.
Lithuania's Vilnius Airport trailed narrowly behind with 5,199 tonnes, equaling 38.7 percent, and rising 9.5 percent, y-o-y.
Finally, Estonia's Tallinn Airport also saw volumes up by 1.7 percent, y-o-y, to 2,843 tonnes, equal to 21.2 percent of total handled at the three airports during the period.
In 2024, Vilnius Airport is thus close to overtaking Riga Airport as the largest cargo airport in the Baltic markets, while Tallinn Airport is slowly growing in volumes as well.
