May 15, 2024 (newstodate): Flown cargo handled at Sweden's Stockholm Airport increased by 3.4 percent, y-o-y, in April 2024.
A total of 7,278 tonnes was handled, and while exports dropped by 10.5 percent to 3,802 tonnes, growth was secured by a rise by 24.3 percent in imports, to 3,476 tonnes.
Still, Stockholm Airport has seen its flown cargo volumes in January-April '24 down by 2.8 percent, y-o-y, to 29,650 tonnes.
Of the total volumes, exports accounted for 16,485 tonnes, down 11 percent, y-o-y, while imports showed a sound growth by 10 percent to 13,165 tonnes.
-Overall, Stockholm Airport is still lagging behind competitors as to recovery in passenger traffic, with competing airports in the region seeing airlines offering increased capacity offering more belly capacity. As a result, much Swedish air cargo is trucked out of the country to other airports - and we report only flown cargo, says Jan-Olov Forss, Swedavia Head of Key Account Management, Passenger & Cargo Aviation Business.
-Anyway, April 2023 does provide more positive figures for Stockholm Airport, albeit the comparison is marred by the fact that April '23 was admittedly extremely bad in cargo - down 16.8 percent in volumes.
Stockholm Arlanda Airport is now preparing for the opening of new flights by ANA from Tokyo starting from June 6, 2024, with three weekly rotations, as well as Air Canada's flights between Stockholm and Montreal to launch from June 14, 2024, also with three weekly rotations, adding flights also to Toronto from June 2024, while Delta is already back with seasonal flights to New York JFK.
To which will be added loads on Lufthansa Cargo's Airbus A321F services operated with ever-changing frequencies.
