May 24, 2024 (newstodate): The Chinese civil aviation authorities have now given the green light for Air Serbia to increase its services between China and Serbia.
This will allow Air Serbia to operate flights from Belgrade to Shanghai and Guangzhou, as has long been in the plans of the carrier.
The permits, valid for three years, allow Air Serbia to operate flights to Guangzhou with up to three weekly rotations and to Shanghai with up up to two weekly rotations.
-Air Serbia is currently in the process of adding two A330 aircraft and expects the first aircraft to arrive at the end of July or early August and to be added to its fleet in September or October, after which the aircraft will be able to be deployed on new direct routes to China, Serbia's infrastructure minister tells Serb media.
-The plan is to operate one flight per week to Shanghai and to Guangzhou, respectively.
Expectations are that the new routes will commence from November or December 2024.
Maintaining amicable relations with both China and Russia, Air Serbia is one of the few European carriers today allowed through Russian airspace, and as its first scheduled destination in China the carrier launched flights from Belgrade to Tianjin on December 9, 2022, with one weekly rotation operated with Airbus A330 aircraft.
