May 22, 2024 (newstodate): Turkish Airlines is soon returning services to Kabul, Afghanistan as the first international legacy carrier.
The flights were suspended after the US withdrawal of forces from Afghanistan in 2021.
With the airline's return to Kabul, Turkish Airlines will be offering four weekly rotations on the route from Istanbul with Airbus A330-300 aircraft.
Earlier, Turkish Airlines planned for returning to Afghanistan already from March 27, 2023, but these plans were suspended due to sustained issues in aviation talks and considerations of the safety and security at the airport.
Kabul Airport was long devoid of commercial flights until the return by flydubai as the first international airline from November 2023, while the Afghan airlines Kam Air and Ariana Afghan Airlines have been operating limited flight schedules from Kabul to destinations including Dubai, Moscow, Islamabad and Istanbul.
