May 02, 2024 (newstodate): With the opening flights on May 1, 2024, Icelandair is now online on the new route connecting Keflavik Airport with Vagar Airport, on the Faroe Islands.
The route is to be served seasonally with six weekly rotations using Dash 8-400 aircraft on the 1:45hrs flight.
Besides offering Icelandair passengers the convenient way to the Faroe Islands, the route will introduce new faster connections for Faroese passengers to Icelandair's spree of destinations in the USA.
Eyeing mutual benefits, Icelandair and the Faroe Islands' Atlantic Airways signed a Letter of Intent on cooperation in June 2023, seeing great opportunities in offering their customers convenient connections between the Faroe Islands and Icelandair's destinations in Europe and North America.
The Faroese carrier Atlantic Airways is already operating scheduled flights between the two points, with three weekly rotations reinstated in June 2020 after the suspension of flights during the Covid-19.
