May 22, 2024 (newstodate): Norway's flown seafood volumes lifted by air from Oslo Airport are on steady growth trajectory in 2024.
As the fourth consecutive month with positive growth in 2024, April saw flown int'l volumes up by 25 percent, y-o-y, to a total of 14,290 tonnes, while the airport's total cargo and mail volumes were up by 22 percent to 15,143 tonnes.
In the first four months of this year, Oslo Airport has thus been handling 56,400 tonnes of flown int'l cargo, increasing by 18 percent, y-o-y, while the airport's total flown cargo and mail volumes accrued to 59,755 tonnes, also up by 15 percent, y-o-y.
Contributing to the rise in volumes in April 2024 was the opening from April 4 of flights by Beijing Capital Airlines on the route connecting Oslo Airport and Chengdu Tianfu International Airport, in China.
During the summer 2024 schedule, Qatar Airways has also increased frequency from seven to 11 weekly rotations from April 8, 2024, and up to 14 weekly rotations during the period June 1-September 1, while Qatar Airways Cargo has also been online at Oslo Airport since January 29, 2013, with up to 11 weekly flights during peak seasons.
Also contributing to the growth in cargo is the return since November 2023 of Emirates SkyCargo with a weekly Boeing 777F freighter service from Oslo to Dubai adding some 100 tonnes to the capacity on the airline's passenger flights on the route, each lifting 30-40 tonnes of Norwegian seafood.
