May 31, 2024 (newstodate): Latvia may see the opening of a new scheduled freighter service connecting Riga and Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
A delegation led by the CEO of the new Uzbek cargo carrier FlyKhiva has been visiting Latvia to promote an increase in the volume of exports of primarily fruits and vegetables, textiles and other products from Uzbekistan to Latvia and other EU countries.
Talks took place with the relevant ministries and agencies in Latvia, as well with Riga airport, where Latvian officials reportedly voiced interest in establishing cargo transportation links between the countries.
Optimistically, the first cargo flights between Uzbekistan and Latvia could be launched already by the end of June or early July, according to Uzbek media covering the issue.
Based at Tashkent, the carrier, part of the FlyKhiva Group, has taken delivery of its first Boeing 767-300F freighter on a lease contract with Icelandair
According to Uzbek media, FlyKhiva will add another two Boeing 767-300F aircraft to the fleet before the end of this year.
Founded in January 2021, FlyKhiva is now starting operations with one Boeing 767-300F freighter leased from Icelandair, with plans for adding another two Boeing 767-300F aircraft to the fleet before the end of this year.
