May 21, 2024 (newstodate): Notwithstanding the harsh effects from the western sanction on Russia's civil aviation, Russian airlines are still flying Airbus aircraft.
The Russian carrier S7 Sibir Airlines has thus now taken over three Airbus A321 aircraft on a lease contract with the country's State Transport Leasing Company.
The three aircraft were earlier operated by another Russian carrier, Yamal Airlines that acquired the aircraft on lease contracts with Lithuania's AviaAM Leasing in 2014 and 2017.
Yamal Airlines however grounded the aircraft last winter over issues with the lease burden.
The aircraft are now to undergo redelivery maintenance before being handed over to S7 for entry into commercial service later this summer, replacing some of the carrier's Airbus A320 aircraft that are reportedly running short of spares to keep them airworthy.
