May 06, 2024 (newstodate): Billund Airport continues to report dynamic growth in cargo volumes in 2024.
In April 2024, the airport saw volumes up by 28.6 percent, y-o-y, to 7,363 tonnes including 5,024 tonnes of exports rising 14.9 percent, and 2,339 tones of imports, also spectacularly up by 72.9 percent.
Truly impressive- but the statistics reflect that Maersk Air Cargo started the use of Billund Airport as its new hub with the first flight only on March 20, 2023, from Billund Airport to China via Navoi in Uzbekistan, routed Billund-Navoi-Hangzhou-Navoi-Billund.
Also, the Faroese cargo carrier made its first call at Billund Airport from March 5, 2024, expanding to three weekly rotations from May 27, 2024.
With Billund Airport as its European hub, FarCargo is now operating from Billund to Vagar Airport, on the Faroe Islands, continuing with Icelandic seafood export shipments to Newark Airport in the USA, with a fuel stop in Keflavik on Iceland.
Returning from Newark, the carrier flies directly back to Billund Airport, loading Danish exports to the Faroe Islands.
From May '24, statistics will reflect the new normal, giving a more realistic picture of the airport's performance.
Anyhow, in January-April 2024 Billund Airport handled a total of 28,990 tonnes of cargo including 20,359 tonnes of exports, up 16.4 percent, y-o-y, and 8,631 tonnes of imports, also up by 55.8 percent.
