May 28, 2024 (newstodate): Vietnamese capital is to take ownership of Kazakhstan's regional carrier Qazaq Air.
Today owned by the Samruk-Kazyna state fund, the airline will be acquired by the Vietnamese Aviation Holdings Company, part of the Sovico Group that is also behind the Vietnamese low-cost airline VietJet Air.
When confirmed, the coming new Vietnamese ownership will allow Qazaq Air to expand the fleet by "at least" twenty Boeing 737 MAX and Airbus A320/A321 aircraft over the next five years - a major expansion compared to today's fleet comprising only five De Havilland Canada Dash 8-400 aircraft.
Without success, the Kazakh state fund has been actively trying to sell off Qazaq Air during the past year, including via a tender that attracted no bids.
