Jun 18, 2024 (newstodate): The grand opening of the new passenger terminal at Greenland's Nuuk Airport was to open for traffic on June 17, 2024 - but the event was suspended at ultra-short notice..
While all pertinent infrastructure is in place, authorities found issues with fire protection and security, and the opening was postponed.
Now the Danish Civil Aviation Authority has approved the security after inspection and approval of Terminal building access control, screening equipment and all security procedures.
What remains is for the fire authorities to approve a few remaining issues to be solved before the terminal can finally start operations.
As the final step, the new 2,200 m runway allowing for handling of international flight operations will be inaugurated on November 28, 2024 - and Air Greenland's Transatlantic flights will then move from Kangerlussuaq Airport to the country's capital airport.
