Jun 07, 2024 (newstodate): Hungary's Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport is now back in state ownership after almost two decades.
Following more than a year of negotiations, the sale and purchase agreement of Budapest Airport Ltd. was signed on June 6, 2024, the Ministry for National Economy announced.
The Hungarian State has acquired 80 percent of the shares in Budapest Airport Ltd. while the French co-investor VINCI now owns the remaining minority 20 percent stake and will be the operator of the airport under a concession till 2080.
The future objectives and business plan for the airport will be presented by the Ministry for National Economy, which will have the ownership rights, and VINCI at a joint press conference in early July.
Budapest Airport was acquired in 2007 by the German company HOCHTIEF AirPort Consortium.
