Jun 28, 2024 (newstodate): China is planning to introduce long-range electric aircraft by 2028, already.
Behind the plans is the Chinese battery manufacturer Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited, CATL, announcing the successful testing of a four-ton aircraft powered by ultra-dense "condensed batteries".
In the next 3-4 years, the company plans to develop an eight-ton electric aircraft with a flight range of 2,000 to 3,000 km.
CATL now holds some 37 percent of the global EV battery market driving cars including Tesla and Ford EVs.
CATL has established an aviation division in a partnership with the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, COMAC.
While the target of an eight-tonne electric aircraft with a range of up to 4,000 km is still no threat to the Airbus A320 or Boeing 737, it will compete with current Western electric aircraft ventures that remain limited to ranges of up to, or below, 1,000 km.
