Jun 04, 2024 (newstodate): Pakistan International Airlines did not succeed in convincing EU to lift the ban on the airline.
A delegation from Pakistan's Civil Aviation Authority had been in Brussels to participate in the EU Air Safety Committee on May 14, 2024, raising media speculations about possibly lifting of the EASA ban on PIA flights to Europe, including Scandinavia, enforced from July 1, 2020, due to the airline's lack of compliance with international standards for certifying and overseeing its operators and aircraft.
A detailed and lengthy safety audit was carried out by the EU Air Safety Committee in November 2023, but the Committee determined that there were insufficient grounds to amend the current list of air carriers prohibited from operating within the EU.
Prior to the enforcement of the ban, PIA operated once-weekly flights since 1999 from Islamabad to Oslo, continuing to Copenhagen and returning to Lahore, in Pakistan.
