Jun 14, 2024 (newstodate): Stiff competition is forcing the German low-cost carrier and member of the Lufthansa Group Eurowings to reconsider its future in the Danish market.
The carrier has decided to close down two of its currently three routes to Copenhagen Airport, with flights to Prague to go from June 30, 2024, followed by the closure of the route to Berlin from September 1, 2024 - both served five time weekly.
Eurowings opened the route connecting Prague and Copenhagen from October 31, 2021, as its first Scandinavian service, while the route connecting Copenhagen and Berlin followed from March 2023.
After September 1, Eurowings is operating only the route connecting Dusseldorf and Copenhagen.
At Copenhagen Airport, Eurowings is served by Atiator as its provider of ground handling.
This summer, Eurowings almost doubled the number of frequencies to the Nordic region compared to pre-Covid days, with flights on a total of 24 routes from German airports to 11 destinations in Scandinavia and Finland.
Eurowings has thus been scheduling 83 weekly flights from five German airports to Gothenburg and Stockholm in Sweden, Copenhagen in Denmark, Oslo, Tromso and Bergen in Norway, and Helsinki in Finland.
#1 on the map is Stockholm with 33 weekly operations, followed by Gothenburg with 18 and Copenhagen with 16 weekly rotations.
