Jun 24, 2024 (newstodate): A new cargo airline applying for an AOC is popping up in Hungary: Hungary Cargo Airlines.
In fact, the carrier is the continuation of Universal Translink Airline Hungary, set up in September 2020 by the Hungarian state acquiring an Airbus A330-300 converted freighter from Qatar Airways.
The driver behind the project was to secure the imports of PPE products during the Covid-19 pandemic, and the aircraft was placed with Wizz Air as the operator and holder of the AOC.
The aircraft was new in Wizz Air's fleet but shares cross-type commonality with its Airbus A320 Family aircraft, allowing its pilots to qualify for flying the aircraft.
According to the local commercial register, the new majority owner of Hungary Cargo Airlines is Jiang Wu, a Chinese investor now holding Hungarian citizenship.
Jiang Wu is the majority owner of the new company, while the state-owned Universal Translink Airlines Co. Ltd. has become a minority shareholder.
Expectations are that the new revamped airline will greatly expand its business model, thriving on the friendly relations between the Hungarian government, Russia and China.
