Jun 24, 2024 (newstodate): All clear: the new 7,200 m2 passenger terminal at Nuuk Airport, Greenland, has now been opened for traffic!
The grand opening of the new passenger terminal at Greenland's Nuuk Airport was originally slated for June 17, 2024 - but the event was suspended at ultra-short notice as the authorities found issues with fire protection and security, causing the opening to be postponed.
Now the Danish Civil Aviation Authority has lifted all restrictions, allowing the airport to close down the old, worn-out terminal and moving traffic to the new facility instead as of today, June 24.
As the next step, the new 2,200 m runway allowing for handling of international flight operations will be inaugurated on November 28, 2024 - and Air Greenland's Transatlantic flights will then move from Kangerlussuaq Airport to the country's capital airport.
