Jul 01, 2024 (newstodate): Turkey's popular leisure destination has come out #1 on the latest daily overview by the EUROCONTROL agency.
But not for a good reason, as the airport is found to dip lowest in regularity of arrivals and departures.
Actually, according to EUROCONTROL's online review only 12.2 percent of flights departed on time from Antalya, Turkey, on Saturday, June 29, while only 10.8 percent of the flights arrived on time at the airport.
The overall accuracy of flights at Turkish airports also reached only 39.7 percent on Saturday.
One charter carrier hit by the poor performance is the Czech LCC operator SmartWings citing poor airspace management in European airspace.
-If EUROCONTROL does not proceed to urgently negotiate a remedy in the management of European airspace and resolve with Turkish air traffic controllers the proper management of aircraft in Turkish airspace in such a way that there is no unnecessary delay of flights and aircraft waiting before landing, or even a forced diversion of aircraft to an alternate airport, we will have to cancel part or all of the flights to Antalya, Turkey, said the spokesperson for Smartwings, calling for immediate measures by the European Commission and the European agency EUROCONTROL.
