Jul 03, 2024 (newstodate): Managed by the company Lithuanian Airports, LTOU, Kaunas Airport has secured EU's co-financing of the project to expand its apron space to 35,000 m2, allowing for increased aircraft parking capacity when completed by early 2025.
The project will offer additional aircraft parking and engine testing areas to increase the number of aircraft parking plots at Kaunas Airport by more than 50 percent.
When completed, the additional space will ease the load on the existing parking lots, while expanding the capacity to accommodate and park more aircraft, as well as providing safe aircraft engine testing in dedicated specially adapted bays.
LTOU applied for the financing of the Kaunas airport apron development project in the context of the military mobility program through which the EU Commission invests in strategically important infrastructure projects in the region.
Funded projects must be adapted both for more efficient military mobility and to meet current and future civilian needs.
Completion of the project will also benefit the airport's strong and growing importance for aircraft maintenance, with Ryanair MRO, a subsidiary of Kaunas Aircraft Maintenance Services, FL Technics, DAT and MAAS Aviation already performing MRO activities at Kaunas Airport.
