Jul 04, 2024 (newstodate): Russia's Federal Air Transport Agency predicts a decline in passenger volumes in 2024.
Estimates are now that Russian airlines will transport a total of 98.1 mio passengers by the end of 2024, which is a drop by seven percent, y-o-y.
Looking ahead, Russia will see a further reduction in air traffic in 2025 by 8.5 percent, to 89.8 million passengers, while expectations are that the country's passenger traffic will begin to recover only in 2026, and will exceed 2023 levels only in 2028.
One factor contributing to the pessimistic prognoses is the current problems for the country's largest private airline S7 concerning power plants on its 39 Airbus A320neo family.
The aircraft are operated with PW1100G geared engines that are troubling airlines worldwide - but unlike other carriers, S7 is barred from Pratt & Whitney's support due to the sanctions imposed on Russia.
