Aug 27, 2024 (newstodate): The Swedish carrier Braathens Regional Airlines has expanded its wet-lease cooperation with the Lufthansa Group's Austrian Airlines.
The Austrian carrier will thus take in a third ATR 72-600 aircraft from Braathens to operate during the coming winter schedule, with delivery on October 28, 2024.
In February 2024, Braathens signed its first wet-lease contract with Austrian Airlines covering two of BRA's 14 ATR72-600 aircraft to operate on Austrian's routes from Vienna to Belgrade, Bologna, Klagenfurt, Kosice, Leipzig, Graz, Warsaw and Zagreb.
Austrian Airlines actually phased out its own ATR turbojet fleet in 2021 - but the need for capacity to serve on shorter range routes remained, leading the carrier to return ATR aircraft in wet-lease service.
