Aug 05, 2024 (newstodate): Poland has been planning for construction of a new green-field, multi-modal mega airport, Centralny Port Kommunikacyjny - Central Communication Port - to be located approximately 45 km Southwest of Warsaw, and replacing Warsaw Chopin Airport from 2028.
At least, this was the plan until the Polish new government took office.
Now the project has been scaled down and re-scheduled due to the expansion of the rail network, to envisaging "only" 34 million passengers rather than designed to handling of up to 40 million passengers per year in the first phase, with capacity to grow to 100 million passengers, and the completion of the airport project is now slated for 2031, with the first commercial flight to launch in 2032.
Also, plans to close down the existing Warsaw Chopin Airport from 2028 have been cancelled.
