Aug 13, 2024 (newstodate): Due to harsh sanctions, Russian airlines are in dire needs for spares to keep their western-build aircraft in the air.
One salient source of spares and components for the Airbus A320 aircraft fleet is the aircraft that crash-landed in a corn field near Novosibirsk in September 2023.
The aircraft, flying from Sochi to Omsk with 167 people, diverted to Novosibirsk after a hydraulic system failure and made a successful landing on an unprepared runway when it began to run out of fuel.
The emergency landing was successful, and ambitions were originally to find ways to bring back the aircraft in the air after preparing a temporary runway.
These plans have been aborted. Instead the work to dismantle the aircraft will now start, providing spares and components much in demand to keep the company's other Airbus aircraft airworthy.
The owner of the aircraft has been fully covered by insurance, leaving Ural Airlines free to scrap the aircraft.
Ural Airlines was a staunch customer with Airbus, taking in its first A320 aircraft in September 2006.
In the fleet of Ural Airlines are today four A319ceo, 22 A320ceo, three A320neo, 14 A321ceo and eight A321neo.
