Aug 15, 2024 (newstodate): International flights have been temporarily suspended at Greenland's Nuuk Airport.
An inspection by the Danish Transport Authority has revealed a number of shortages in the security infrastructure, resulting in the suspension of international flights and the ensuing downgrading of the airport's security certification.
The shortcomings and lack of adherence to security requirements are, however, of minor scales and may be corrected within a short period of time.
While the official opening of the new Nuuk Airport has been slated for November 28, 2024, allowing for Transatlantic operations, the airport has already seen certain international flights including the opening of the route between Nuuk and Iqaluit in Northern Canada's Inuit province on June 26, 2024, in cooperation with the Canadian airline Canadian North Air, as well as flights to Keflavik, Iceland.
