Aug 21, 2024 (newstodate): Vagar Airport, on the Faroe Islands, is seeing brisk growth in cargo volumes in 2024.
In July 2024 the airport handled its biggest-ever volume of cargo totaling 612 tonnes, bringing the volumes in January-July '24 to a total of 2,185 tonnes.
The reason behind the growth is obviously the launch of Bakkafrost-owned FarCargo that is now plying the skies from Vagar Airport to Brussels and Dublin with salmon shipments for onward transportation by partner airlines to the US and other markets as well as brining in imports from the Danish airport at Billund.
FarCargo launched services from March 5, 2024, with a Boeing 757-200 converted freighter.
In January-December 2023, Vagar Airport handled only 462 tonnes of cargo, rendering 2023/2024 comparisons useless..
