Sep 30, 2024 (newstodate): The state-owned company Lithuanian Airports has now published its Strategy 2025-28.
The plan builds on two visions: one is building sustainable partnerships, the second is to accelerate national economic growth.
In the English-language OH-presentation, "cargo" is however mentioned only two times.
Earlier this year, LTOU also presented its master plan for developments till 2052.
In this plan, cargo plays a more significant role, with Vilnius Airport alone foreseeing an increase from 15,987 tonnes in 2022 to between 27,300 and 52,800 tonnes in 2052, with 39,100 tonnes as the baseline.
-Technically speaking - that is true. It is also aligned with our strategy, which highlights sustainable partnerships and the contribution of the airport ecosystem to the Lithuanian economy, admits Tadas Vasiliauskas, LTOU Media Relations Officer.
-While the term 'cargo' may not be explicitly mentioned often, we are committed to expanding our cargo and MRO activities, fostering sustainable partnerships, and supporting the growth of our country’s economy.
-The cargo sector is certainly one of the key areas for us as an airport network. Currently, Vilnius Airport and Kaunas Airport together have around 15 hectares of leased land where cargo and MRO including aircraft maintenance hangars, cargo terminals, other facilities and operations are already in place.
-Over the next decade, we are prepared to lease an additional four hectares at Vilnius and approximately 20 hectares at Kaunas. We are talking about ambitions to double the current areas and the scope of cargo and MRO services across our network.
-The air cargo sector and related industries need dedicated attention when planning and developing airport infrastructure. This is why we focus on expanding areas and services dedicated to cargo and MRO activities, ensuring that infrastructure development caters to their specific needs, says Mr Vasiliauskas.
